Moving between iPhone and Android
LendKeeper uses the same backup file on iPhone and Android. That lets you take your items, categories, history, custom fields and photos to a new phone – in either direction.
1. Export a backup on the old phone
- iPhone: Settings → Export Backup. Android: ⋮ → Settings → Export backup.
- Optionally enter a password – the backup is then encrypted. Keep the password safe; without it the backup cannot be restored.
- Save the file. It is called e.g.
LendKeeper-Backup-2026-11-06.lk.
2. Get the file onto the new phone
Any way you like: email it to yourself, save it to iCloud Drive or Google Drive, use AirDrop, Quick Share or a USB cable.
3. Restore it on the new phone
- Install LendKeeper from the App Store or Google Play.
- iPhone: Settings → Import Backup and choose the file – or simply tap the
.lkfile in Mail or Files, LendKeeper opens it directly. Android: ⋮ → Settings → Restore backup and choose the file. - Choose Replace (the backup replaces everything on the new phone) or Merge (items from the backup are added, nothing is lost).
- If the backup is encrypted, enter its password.
Good to know
- Restoring a backup is part of Premium. Premium is bought separately in each store – a purchase on the iPhone does not unlock Android and vice versa.
- If you used LendKeeper on Android before version 1.4, you can restore your own backups on Android for free.
- Older backups also still work:
.jsonfiles on both systems, and on Android also backups made with “Export database”. - iCloud sync only works between iPhones. Between iPhone and Android, use the backup file.
